The Seeed Fusion Open Parts Library has Grown: Over 200 more FREE Resistors

We are proud to bring you the much-awaited news that Seeed Fusion’s Open Parts Library (OPL) has expanded to include over 200 more of the most commonly used resistors – as used by actual customers. That makes over 800 in-stock and ready to go components for you to pick from. Furthermore, all the new additions are FREE* with Seeed Fusion PCB assembly orders.

Many of you already know that the Seeed OPL exists to make PCB assembly faster, cheaper and more convenient for you, but the most common complaint we get from you is that the catalog is too small to cover your projects. So, we’ve been working our socks off to build on it and allow more of you to reap all the incredible benefits:

Faster

Typical Seeed Fusion PCB assembly, including PCB manufacture and components procurement, takes 25 working days, much of which is spent sourcing components and shipping them over to Shenzhen HQ. And we know that is much too long for many a deadline. So, being located in the Silicon Valley of Hardware, we asked, why not use the resources on our doorstep? The Seeed Fusion OPL is our hoard of components we’ve gathered and stocked from our favorite suppliers. By sourcing all your components from the Seeed OPL, you can cut sourcing times to virtually zero! (Or just to the time it takes to cherry-pick the components).

Cheaper

If you have ever paid a visit to the bustling electronics markets of Shenzhen’s Huaqiangbei for yourself, you will be familiar with the immensely low prices of components and electronics in general compared to alternatives back on home soil. Pennies can get what would usually need several dollars. We’ve taken advantage of that. Seeed OPL components are bought in bulk where they were made – no need to have mere handfuls shipped abroad, only for them to be shipped back to China for assembly. These cost savings are passed directly onto you, if not included for free* entirely.

More Convenient

Eagle and Kicad users can delight with the component libraries we’ve prepared for the OPL. No need to draw a single component footprint or label yourself again. What’s more, these parts are always in plentiful supply, in-house, so you can be sure that there won’t be any stock or sourcing issues. They also need to undergo Seeed’s strict quality inspection procedures that are more reliable and effective than inconsistent, individual inspections.

In this expansion pack, we decided to build on the essentials to make it applicable to just about any project and to allow more of you to take advantage of the OPL. It is just the start and marks the first of many in the near future. We’re sure you’ll be as excited as we are, so be sure to stay tuned!

Check out what’s been added to the Open Parts Library for yourself,

*Due to the rise in costs of certain components, particularly resistors and capacitors, we are sorry to announce that the 600+ free OPL components are no longer available free of charge with PCBA orders. They are still much cheaper than buying in small quantities though and can considerably reduce the cost of turnkey PCB assembly.

Components in the OPL are not available for sale separately

  1. Hi Scott,

Thank you for your kind comments, we’re glad it helps,

Regarding the new libraries, our engineers are working on it now and it should be up soon.

And thanks for the head-ups about the SKU numbers, we’ll make sure we review all of these and correct any other problems in the previous libraries.

    Regards!

  2. This is a welcomed upgrade, thanks for doing it.

When will the KiCad/Eagle libraries get updated to reflect these changes?
Also, there are errors in the existing libraries (its not uncommon that the SKUs are wrong in the KiCad version), hopefully those got fixed with the upcoming upgrade too.

    Thanks!
    -Scott
