Wio-E5 is the world’s first LR module embedded with the ST system-level MCU. Since the launch of Wio-E5, it has proven popular with the LoRaWAN community. To thank everyone for supporting Wio-E5, and helping more users get a taste of Wio-E5 and implement it into their designs, Seeed is happy to announce that the Wio-E5 has now been added to the Seeed Open Parts Library (OPL) for Seeed Fusion PCBA. When used with the Seeed Fusion PCB Assembly service, the Wio-E5 module is available at just US$5.90 (40% discount, original price US$9.90).

Real Wio-E5 Module Applications

Enhancing the capabilities of LR technology, the Wio-E5 (STM32WLE5JC) module is highly suited for long-distance and ultra-low power consumption applications and is easy to install and fine-tune. However, by combining the LR RF transceiver and Arm® Cortex®‐M4 core, Wio-E5 lowers BOM costs, simplifies development and reduces the form factor, making it an excellent choice for new smart IoT projects.

Wio-E5 is suitable for LoRaWAN sensor nodes and networks. It can play an important role in providing smart and efficient networks for applications including smart cities, smart homes, e-health, agriculture and other fields. If you want to calibrate LoRaWAN sensors, build IoT converters or support any long-distance wireless communication application, then Wio-E5 is a low-cost yet powerful candidate.

Hardware engineers from TTN (The Things Network) first designed and developed a feather-style breakout board for the Wio-E5 LoRa-WAN module. These development boards using Seeed’s STM32WL based Wio-E5 modules can be controlled through AT commands or programmed with the STM32Cube ecosystem. These three new boards exponentially expand development options for this ultra-compact “chip”.

The Wio-E5 module is designed to industry standards and is suitable for industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) products, such as intelligent manufacturing, aerospace and construction, the foundation of Industry 4.0 and smart factories.

The highly integrated Wio-E5 has great flexibility. For industrial customers who wish to develop software on the module’s MCU, they can easily manipulate other GPIOs, including UART, I2C, ADC, etc.
