FreeNAS can be installed on Windows, macOS, Unix clients, and virtualized hosts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>FreeNAS runs on x86-64 hardware so we choose to use our new product&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.seeedstudio.com\/ODYSSEY-X86J4105800-p-4445.html\">ODYSSEY \u2013 X86J4105<\/a> to demonstrate how to build a personal cloud drive by installing the open-source storage operating system. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ODYSSEY is a series of SBC (Single Board Computer), allowing you to build Edge Computing applications with ease. The ODYSSEY &#8211; X86J4105,&nbsp; based on Intel Celeron J4105, is a Quad-Core 1.5GHz CPU that bursts up to 2.5GHz. It includes all the powerful features of Mini PC such as&nbsp;including an 8GB LPDDR4 RAM, 64GB eMMC Storage(optional), onboard Wi-Fi\/BLE, Dual Gigabyte Ethernet Ports, Audio Input and Output, USB Ports, HDMI, SATA Connectors and PCIe, however, within a cost-effective price starting at $188. With <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seeedstudio.com\/ODYSSEY-X86J4105864-Win10-Enterprise-Activated-p-4446.html\">eMMC versions<\/a>, you even have the Windows 10 Enterprise pre-installed!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let&#8217;s take a look at the step-by-step tutorial! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/ansonhe97\/X86\/blob\/master\/FreeNAS.md#hardware-requirements\"><\/a>Hardware Requirements<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A Working Computer<\/li><li>USB Drive x 2 (&lt;8GB is recommended)<\/li><li>A Monitor<\/li><li>Keyboard<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/ansonhe97\/X86\/blob\/master\/FreeNAS.md#download-the-freenas-os-image\"><\/a>Download the FreeNAS OS Image<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>First, download the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.freenas.org\/download-freenas-release\/\">FreeNAS OS Image<\/a>&nbsp;into your drive. It should be an&nbsp;<code>.iso<\/code>&nbsp;file.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/SeeedDocument\/ODYSSEY-X86J4105864\/raw\/master\/img\/FreeNAS\/FreeNAS-download.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/github.com\/SeeedDocument\/ODYSSEY-X86J4105864\/raw\/master\/img\/FreeNAS\/FreeNAS-download.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In this tutorial, FreeNAS 11.3 is used. FreeNAS will need to install on a different drive. You can install the FreeNAS on an HDD or SSD Hard Drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong>&nbsp;In this tutorial, FreeNAS OS is installed onto a USB drive for convenience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/ansonhe97\/X86\/blob\/master\/FreeNAS.md#creating-a-bootable-usb\"><\/a>Creating a Bootable USB<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/ansonhe97\/X86\/blob\/master\/FreeNAS.md#step-1---prepare-your-bootable-usb\"><\/a>Step 1 &#8211; Prepare your Bootable USB<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Format one of the USB drive. When booting up, keep pressing&nbsp;DEL&nbsp;key to enter the setup screen. Navigate to&nbsp;<strong><code>Advanced<\/code><\/strong>&nbsp;-&gt;&nbsp;<strong><code>CSM Support<\/code><\/strong>&nbsp;and press Enter to enable it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/SeeedDocument\/ODYSSEY-X86J4105864\/raw\/master\/img\/OpenWRT\/biosSetting.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/github.com\/SeeedDocument\/ODYSSEY-X86J4105864\/raw\/master\/img\/OpenWRT\/biosSetting.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/ansonhe97\/X86\/blob\/master\/FreeNAS.md#step-2---install-the-os\"><\/a>Step 2 &#8211; Install the OS<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Reboot your ODYSSEY &#8211; X86J4105 and keep pressing&nbsp;<strong><code>F7<\/code><\/strong>&nbsp;to enter the boot manager screen. Press&nbsp;<code>Enter<\/code>&nbsp;to select the Boot FreeNAS Installer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/SeeedDocument\/ODYSSEY-X86J4105864\/raw\/master\/img\/FreeNAS\/FreeNAS-option.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/github.com\/SeeedDocument\/ODYSSEY-X86J4105864\/raw\/master\/img\/FreeNAS\/FreeNAS-option.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Once entered into the installer, an option menu should appear as follow, choose&nbsp;<strong>Install\/Select<\/strong>&nbsp;and press&nbsp;<code>Enter<\/code>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/SeeedDocument\/ODYSSEY-X86J4105864\/raw\/master\/img\/FreeNAS\/FreeNAS-drive.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/github.com\/SeeedDocument\/ODYSSEY-X86J4105864\/raw\/master\/img\/FreeNAS\/FreeNAS-drive.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Select a drive to install the FreeNAS image. Here we should be able to see the other USB drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong>&nbsp;Use&nbsp;<code>spacebar<\/code>&nbsp;to select the USB drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/SeeedDocument\/ODYSSEY-X86J4105864\/raw\/master\/img\/FreeNAS\/FreeNAS-warning.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/github.com\/SeeedDocument\/ODYSSEY-X86J4105864\/raw\/master\/img\/FreeNAS\/FreeNAS-warning.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A warning will appear stating that everything in the chosen drive will be wiped, simply press Yes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/SeeedDocument\/ODYSSEY-X86J4105864\/raw\/master\/img\/FreeNAS\/FreeNAS-pw.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/github.com\/SeeedDocument\/ODYSSEY-X86J4105864\/raw\/master\/img\/FreeNAS\/FreeNAS-pw.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Create your root password for logging into the FreeNAS from Web interface later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/SeeedDocument\/ODYSSEY-X86J4105864\/raw\/master\/img\/FreeNAS\/FreeNAS-complete.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/github.com\/SeeedDocument\/ODYSSEY-X86J4105864\/raw\/master\/img\/FreeNAS\/FreeNAS-complete.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The installation process will take place, and wait until the installing is finished.
