Since different products have different features, they need different testing methods in various testing environments. In this post, I am giving you a glimpse of how we chose and tested materials for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seeedstudio.com\/LoRaWAN-Air-Temperature-and-Humidity-Sensor-EU868-p-4307.html\">Air Temperature &amp; Humidity Sensor<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seeedstudio.com\/LoRaWAN-Barometric-Pressure-Sensor-EU868-p-4309.html\">Barometric Pressure Sensor<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the process of designing the products, we need to consider the material&#8217;s robustness, durability as well as how it can reduce the environment&#8217;s influences such as solar radiation, reflection, and precipitation as well accumulated temperature on the sensor probes in monitoring environmental data results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And we selected the following materials at the early stage:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>PE <\/li><li>PTFE<\/li><li>Metal, bore diameter: 30~40\u03bcm<\/li><li>Metal, bore diameter: 60~90\u03bcm<\/li><li>Gravel<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Gravel was discarded right after the first testing because of insufficient robustness. As a result, we chose PE, PTFE, and Metal (two different bore diameters) for the follow-up testings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1030\" height=\"773\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.seeedstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/testing-probes-1030x773.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-33004\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.seeedstudio.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/testing-probes-1030x773.png 1030w, https:\/\/www.seeedstudio.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/testing-probes-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/www.seeedstudio.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/testing-probes-768x576.png 768w, https:\/\/www.seeedstudio.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/testing-probes-1024x768.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.seeedstudio.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/testing-probes.png 1440w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1030px) 100vw, 1030px\" \/><figcaption><em>(SenseCAP Air Temperature &amp; Humidity Sensor under testing of accumulated temperature in the normal outdoor environment )<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We tested the materials and compared their performances in the following aspects respectively: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Waterproof functionality<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Dustproof functionality <\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Robustness &amp; Durability <\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Accumulated Temperature: <\/strong>test and compare the test results of each sensor probe in different conditions, including bare board, covered with the above-mentioned materials, etc.; and then chose the material with which the data is closest to the actual data.<\/li><li><strong>Plunge Test:<\/strong> test the response rate and sensitivity of the sensor within the range of -40\u2103 and 80\u2103 by comparing the response rate curves of different versions of the sensors.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>After comparing the testing results of different elements, we&#8217;ve chosen the optimal material for the probe enclosure. It features waterproof, dustproof and its performance can withstand the influence of the surrounding environments. As a result, for these two sensors, the sensor node is IP66 rated, and the sensor probe is IP65 rated, suitable for deploying in outdoor scenarios for a long time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.seeedstudio.com\/LoRaWAN-Air-Temperature-and-Humidity-Sensor-EU868-p-4307.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static-cdn.seeedstudio.com\/media\/catalog\/product\/cache\/9d0ce51a71ce6a79dfa2a98d65a0f0bd\/0\/1\/01_12_2.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><figcaption><em>(SenseCAP Air Temperature &amp; Humidity Sensor LoRaWAN)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s all for this week\u2019s update on the testing of Seeed industrial IoT products.
