It is an all-in-one electronic measuring instrument that combines several measurement functions. Thus, it&#8217;ll be able to troubleshoot issues with your circuit or electronic designs!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are two types of multimeter, but a typical multimeter is capable of measuring voltage, current and resistance. We will go into more detail in the latter part of this guide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A typical multimeter nowadays looks like this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static-cdn.seeedstudio.com\/media\/catalog\/product\/cache\/b2267b506d4e4594666ef83a79896a9a\/h\/t\/httpsstatics3.seeedstudio.comimagesproductcapacitance20meter.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"376\" height=\"282\"\/><figcaption><a href=\"https:\/\/www.seeedstudio.com\/Digital-Capacitance-Meter-p-1414.html\">Digital Capacitance Meter<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Types of Multimeter<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Although we mainly use digital multimeters these days, as I briefly mentioned earlier, there are two types of multimeter:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Analog<\/li><li>Digital<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Let&#8217;s talk about Resolution in multimeters before stating their differences: The resolution of a multimeter is the smallest part of the scale which can be shown, which is scale-dependent. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Analog Multimeter<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The analog multimeters are more responsive to changes than digital multimeters, thus it is able to give a more accurate reading. Continuity allows you to detect bugs and troubleshoot your circuit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To do so, turn your knob to this symbol:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/randomnerdtutorials.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Fig.-15.jpg?w=328&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"267\" height=\"189\"\/><figcaption>Ref:<a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/randomnerdtutorials.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Fig.-15.jpg?w=328&amp;ssl=1\"> Random Nerd Tutorials<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>This would allow a very small amount of current to flow without resistance. You can then proceed to touch the two probes together. If your circuit is connected, you should hear a continuous sound. If not, then it&#8217;s a sign for you to troubleshoot!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Note: Not all multimeter have this option,  but most multimeter should be able to do so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Measuring Voltage<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>All you have to do is plug in the probes and turn to the amount of voltage you require. If not, you&#8217;ll get a negative reading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Measuring Current<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To measure current, you need to plug the probes in the opposite as to what you&#8217;ve done to measure voltage. This is because current should be measured in series. All you need to do is choose the amount of voltage you need.
