Currently, four global systems are operational: the United States\u2019s Global Positioning System (GPS), Russia&#8217;s Global Navigation Satellite System (GLONASS), China&#8217;s BeiDou Navigation Satellite System, and the European Union&#8217;s Galileo. The satellites provide signals from space that transmit positioning and timing data to GNSS receivers. The receivers then use this data to determine location. By comparing the time difference between when a satellite starts transmitting and when the signal is received at the receiver, we can calculate the distance between the satellite and the receiver.
