The AirBoard has been designed to be wirelessly reprogrammable. The microUSB connector is used for battery charging only. To upload a new program, you will need additional wireless shields such as XBee or BLE and their associated USB dongle, or an external serial connection over FTDI.

This is the Basic AirBoard with built-in battery. You can use the ESP8266 Wifi Bee (www.dfrobot.com/product-1279.html), but you also need a BLE_LINK/USB dongle or XBee/Explorer dongle combo for programming (see references, tuto and faq on www.theairboard.cc).
