Freeduino USB complete Kit includes all the kits needed to assemble Freeduino. And now the Freeduino USB Kit comes with a mini USB-B connector pre-soldered to the PCB and the Atmega 328 microcontroller.
The FT232RL chip is pre-soldered, eliminating the most difficult component to solder. The rest of the components are easy to solder through-hole. We also switched from metal film 1% resistors to standard resistors for easier value reading for novice users.
All you need is a soldering iron, some solder, a multimeter and soldering skills.

I just received and soldered the freeduino board, and it does not work. I swap the atmega chip with another coming from a working original duemilanove and this seems to work. So either the chip is faulty or it has no bootloader. I have not tried yet to burn the boot loader (know i can do it from another arduino, but never did it, let you know later)...
Sorry for the inconvenience brought. I think we missed bootloader in your chip.
If you can't burn it by yourself, We will send a new chip to you.

If you are ordering a bunch of these babies, make ABSOLUTELY SURE that you order "mini" usb cable. I think I clicked on an "also bought" link and ended up getting 5 type B (big fat Duemilanove type) cables which are useless to work with the freeduinos.
So, learn from my mistake and order the MINI cable not the Type B. cheers!

This is a great Arduino Duemilanove compatible kit for beginners with an ATmega328
and affordable it is!
The kits I received (in October 2009) had all parts with the correct values included and
the PCB silkscreen had polarity markers for the LEDs (PCB was labled Freeduino v1.22).
Assembly is real easy - took me about 15-20 min for a kit and they worked instantly.
True, there seems to be no assembly guide for the Freeduino USB v1.22 PCB but the
NKC assembly guide for PCB v1.19.1 is most accurate for v1.22 as well:
http://mcukits.com/2009/03/12/assembling-the-freeduino-board-kit/
Just keep two things in mind when following this tutorial:
1. Ignore the special instructions for PCB v1.20 (the F1 resettable fuse comes
preinstalled as a SMD on PCB v1.22)
2. Don't get confused about the USB B PCB jack. PCB v1.22 comes with a presoldered
mini USB B SMD jack (making assembly even easier). If you prefer the bulkier
USB B PCB jack you can take the mini USB B SMD connector off and replace it with
a USB B PCB connector - the PCB provides mounting pads/holes for both options.
Actually, the only differences I have found between PCB v1.19.1 and v1.22 are
the added polarity markers for the LEDs on the silkscreen. :)
Fits on the Harness for Arduino/Seeeduino and works with all Arduino shields I
have tested so far. Great board for entry level school projects and everyone who
wants to get started with Arduinos.

Fun little project. Sadly, components shipped were incorrect. Wrong number of Caps and wrong resistor values. Manual was for v1.19 and I couldn't find a manual for the v1.22. There was some differences from the v1.19 to v1.22 which made me follow traces. Fortunately, I have in my spares bag the bits needed. Item works brilliantly once assembled. Much fun. I *STRONGLY* recommend it. I have been loving it for several weeks and will soon get a second one. Better manual would've been good for newbies though. Excellent quality build.

A good product - gives you the advancements made by the Freeduino community at a great cost. A few things could improve, however -
First, updating the page to reflect the components actually shipped would be nice. The major change that I think would be appropriate, however, would be including polarity of the LED's on the silkscreen. I had to pull out my multimeter and follow traces to try and figure out the polarity of the 4 LED's. Pretty frustrating to have to slow down the build to figure out which way the LED's should go in.
On a final note, shipping from Seeedstudio to USA was abysmal - order only if you have no immediate need of receiving the product (it took 32 days to arrive at my door). Not a knock against this specific product (and I love the Blue PCB!), but something to be aware of when ordering from Seeedstudio.
