      Description

      ReSpeaker 2-Mics Pi HAT is a dual-microphone expansion board for Raspberry Pi designed for AI and voice applications. This means that you can build a more powerful and flexible voice product that integrates Amazon Alexa Voice Service, Google Assistant, and so on.


      The board is developed based on WM8960, a low power stereo codec. There are 2 microphones on both sides of the board for collecting sounds and it also provides 3 APA102 RGB LEDs, 1 User Button and 2 on-board Grove interfaces for expanding your applications. What is more, 3.5mm Audio Jack or JST 2.0 Speaker Out are both available for audio output.

      I have followed the Google Assistant example. Exevrything works up to installing Pulseaudio. Before installing Pulseaudio, the Google Assistant voice is very quiet through the headphone jack and I can barely hear it (headphone is at full on ALSA mixer). After installing Pulseaudio, the Google Assistant doesn't respond at all. I have tried changing different mixer settings, but can't fix it. ANyone know how to fix this?

      I have the same problem! Raspberry Pi 3, Raspbian, ReSpeaker 2-mic, Pulseaudio works fine... but google-assistant-demo hangs after:ON_MUTED_CHANGED:{'is_muted': False}ON_START_FINISHED

      I am also stuck here and pulling my hair. Tried multiple solutions but not even getting the "chipmunk" stage. Playback and Record are working when tested... just that Google assistant refuses to work!!! Frustrated!!!

      I'm also looking for a final answer on this. What I figured out is that with pavucontrol you can switch between 2 Profiles: Analog Stereo Output and Analog Stereo Input. If you activate Input then your voice gets recognized but you have no output (seems like the output channel in this profile is mapped to a Dummy-Output-Device). If you activate the Output Profile then there seems to be no input. Question is now: How do you configure everthing to have In- and Output work at the same time.

      Think I solved it: Problem for me seemed to be that pulseaudio was installed AFTER this driver. The /etc/pulse/default.pa file was the distribution standard which seems to work incorrectly. When using this one from the repository https://github.com/respeaker/seeed-voicecard/blob/master/default.pa there are no configuration profiles being displayed in pavucontrol but input and output channels work at the same time. This made me run google-assistant-demo correctly.

      Has anyone been able to overcome the fast 'Chipmunk' playback speed? Apparently several (if not all) people have this issue and have been unable to resolve.

      I have today received this card, and can report that I have the same issue with the latest version of the SDK. I have built the system from scratch, and also used the supplied image. Both exhibit the same issue.My suspicion is that there is an issue with the provided driver.

      It seems to be an issue numerous mic HATs are having. We are looking into it, but have not yet found a solution. It does not seem to be on our end, but will will continue to try to find the problem.

      Haven't tried the solution yet. Hopefully it works.I do find it surprising that there are six reviews, all with 5 stars saying 'Good Product!' - are these shill reviews? Especially during the period that no one could come up with a solution.Be forewarned...

      It seems that many HATs does not have EEPROM. If I'm not mistaken it's optional, and even if it's there it's usually useless.

      Hi, I use this board on top of the Raspberry PI Zero W, and it can not even run the google-assistant-demo, the error msg is "google.assistant.library.assistant.UnsupportedPlatformError: armv6l is not supported".

      Don't hold your breath. I (and several others) have playback issues with the speed being too fast. ZERO response from Seed forum or Seed itself.

      Thats not true ... i was ordering one 6/6/217 and the status is still in "not in delivery" Is the new announced date 07/15/2017 for my order from June ? This is not the first time for me delivery at not announced date , this happens now 3 times. Best regards Joachim

      I fixed the chipmunk voice problem by taking the asound.conf and asound.state files from the source dist of the re-speaker driver on github and installing them according to the instructions (put asound.conf in /etc, use alsactl command to install asound.state), then I used alsamixer to increase volume on all device (mic and speaker). It Works!

      @Bob Thanks for the info! Could you provide the link for the 'the source dist of the re-speaker driver'? It also would have been helpful had you posted this as a response to the existing 'Chipmunk issue'. Was this under Jessie or Stretch version of Raspbian?

      Both JST connecter and 3.5m audio jack can stream audio output, are support stereo.Did you try ALSA cmd to setting?

      Xiaobo - you are wrong. There are only two pins on the JST audio connector and stereo would require 4 pins. A quick check of the schematic link shows the JST connector is wired to the right channel; the left channel LP (low power) connections on the WM8960 IC are not connected to anything. Looks like Seeed rushed to get this design out without fully thinking the design through.
