The actual interface to the display is TX,RX,5V,GND,Reset and it's only the 5-26-pin adapter that doesn't work with the 40-pin Raspi models. But the data sheet also says that it's not intended as a primary display for the Raspi - it's an intelligent graphics processing engine on its own, with a programming interface designed to send objects to it, rather than the usual dumb display that you send pixels from the processor. (It also has a touchscreen and audio connections, an SD-card reader, and a second serial port so you can drive it from other devices, like PCs or Arduino, If you want to hack, this looks like lots of fun. If you want plug-and-play, you can find easier things, but you could build a cable or use one of the Raspi breadboard adapters and 4 wires.
