Oh, and does anyone know the name/manufacturer of the BLE module? Looks like a HM-xx clone, but in fact it isn't (18 pins, no HM model has that pincount). Cannot find a datasheet anywhere.

Can't get anything from the BLE module; ATmega32u4 works fine, but I can't get any response from the CC2540. Suspected that the first one was defect and ordered a second time - big mistake, exact same behavior. Pored over the CC2540 datasheet, tried to speak to it directly via USART, but received no response whatsoever. Anyone ever gotten any USART response on the board at all?

Mine works fine. You should probably go to the arduino forums for guidance. Also suggest you supply more info in your question such as what IDE you are using, etc.
