PRODUCT DETAILS

It monitor soil moisture and temperature ranging from 0% to 100% of saturation and -40℃ ~ +80℃, making it widely applicable in industrial environmental sensing scenarios.

We have two versions Industrial Soil Moisture & Temperature Sensor. The main difference is the cable connector. Please choose the version that best suits your needs:

(1) This one is with hook-up wires. It is compatible with SenseCAP LoRaWAN® Data Logger to connect with the LoRaWAN® network, enjoying the benefits of low-power and long-range communication.

(2)Another version is with a waterproof aviation connector. It is compatible with SenseCAP Sensor Hub 4G Data Logger, which can collect various sensor data simultaneously and send them via 3G/4G LTE.

Features

  • High Performance: high accuracy, reliability, and stability
  • Universal Protocol: MODBUS-RTU RS485 and 0~2V Analog Voltage
  • Wide-range Power Supply: Can be powered with supply voltage within 3.6V ~ 30V and 3.9V ~ 30V
  • Strong Robustness: anti-corrosion, with excellent performance for long-term use
  • Safety: designed with reverse voltage protection

Description

Too much water in the soil is not only bad for plants, but it also wastes water and adds an extra burden on our planet. Plants grow best at their preferred temperature ranges. With access to soil moisture and temperature data, we can take action to make sure the right amount of water is irrigated at the appropriate time and that plants are in optimal environments for their growth.

This Soil Moisture & Temperature Sensor comes with hook-up wires. It is designed with industry standards and incorporates two sensors (soil moisture sensor and soil temperature sensor) into one, featuring high precision and high sensitivity. By measuring the dielectric constant of the soil, it can stably measure the soil VWC (volumetric water content) regardless of various soil types. The measurement conforms to current international standards for soil moisture measurement.

It is IP68-rated, very robust and durable, and suitable for long-term monitoring of soil moisture and temperature at scientific experiments, water-saving irrigation, greenhouses, outdoor farming, gardening, precision agriculture, and other professional environmental monitoring scenarios.

Applications

Water-saving irrigation,Scientific Experiments,Greenhouse Management,Horticulture and Gardening,Golf turf Management,Smart Agriculture,Other Environmental Monitoring Scenarios

Note

Version 1 of this soil sensor supports the RS485 protocol, which is now retired, and replaced by this current one: Version 2, supporting RS485 protocol and 0~2V analog voltage. If your purchase the product before April 2021, it's version 1, and please refer to user manual V1.0; else, please refer to user manual V2.0.

FAQ

Q: What exactly is soil moisture measured?
A: Measured is soil volumetric water content, soil volumetric water content %= soil volumetric water content * bulk density

Q: How is soil volume water content measured?
A: By measuring the dielectric constant, and then through a certain calculation formula to convert into soil volume water content.

Q: Why does the measured volume water content of soil not reach 100% in water?
A:

First of all, the saturated water content of the soil is about 60%, and the measurement of higher water content is not of practical significance.

Second, we need to pay attention to the test environment and method when testing.

7*7*7cm square column range measured by the sensor probe. If water is used for the test, a container of at least 20*20*20cm is required, and the probe is placed in the middle (with water to immerse the probe).

The resulting value will be between 80% and 100%.

Q: How to install a soil sensor probe?
A:

Dig a vertical hole, insert the sensor steel needle into the hole to be measured, and then compacted the pit to ensure that the steel needle is in close contact with the soil.
