SeeedStudio Ranger at the AI for Good Robotic Youth Challenge 2025

Geneva, Switzerland – The AI for Good Robotic Youth Challenge 2025 wasn’t just a competition; it was a glimpse into the future of humanitarian tech. Amidst the global innovators gathered at the UN’s leading platform for AI, Dessap Fomekong Loic Joffree stood out not only as a mentor but also as a Seeed Studio Ranger, bringing experience in AI, IoT, robotics education, and grassroots STEM empowerment.

As a Ranger, Dessap Fomekong Loic’s mission is to empower communities through open hardware. In Geneva, he transformed his exhibition space into a masterclass on how Seeed Studio’s professional-grade tools can be deployed for disaster response and education in developing nations.

Here is how Ranger Dessap Loic showcased the power of “Tech for Good.”

The Ranger’s Arsenal: Showcasing the Seeed Studio Ecosystem

Loic didn’t just talk about theory; he brought the hardware that powers the Robotsave initiative. His booth became a “living lab” where visitors could touch, test, and understand the industry-standard tools defining the next generation of IoT.

1.  SenseCAP LoRaWAN Solutions

Dessap Fomekong Loic demonstrated how robust communication is vital during disasters when traditional networks fail.

  • SenseCAP M2 LoRaWAN Gateway: He showed how this compact device can create an instant communication network covering kilometers, essential for coordinating rescue robots in remote areas.

  • SenseCAP S210x Sensors: Visitors saw live data streaming from these industrial-grade sensors (monitoring soil moisture, and temperature), proving that precision agriculture and environmental monitoring can be “plug-and-play.”

2. The “Brain”: XIAO Series & TinyML

Demystifying AI was a core goal. Loic showcased the Seeed Studio XIAO ESP32S3, a thumb-sized microcontroller that packs a punch.

  • TinyML in Action: He ran live demos of computer vision models directly on the chip (using the SenseCraft AI platform). The tiny board successfully identified objects and hazards—a critical feature for low-cost search-and-rescue robots.

  • Why it Matters: He proved to educators that you don’t need expensive servers to teach AI; you just need a $10 chip and the right guidance.

3.SenseCAP Indicator

Loic displayed the SenseCAP Indicator, a 4-inch touch screen that acts as an IoT hub.

  • He used it to visualize the data from the robot sensors in real-time, showing how complex data can be made accessible and readable for non-technical users in the field.

The Ultimate Classroom: The TME Education All-in-One Board

At the heart of Loic’s educational showcase was a tool that has revolutionized STEM workshops across Africa: the TME Education Board.

Loic demonstrated why this board is the “Swiss Army Knife” of electronics education. Instead of overwhelmed students struggling with loose wires and breadboards, visitors saw a sleek, all-in-one embedded solution designed for immediate learning.

A Complete Lab on a Single Board

Loic walked visitors through the board’s impressive array of integrated peripherals, proving that you can teach complex logic without a single soldering iron:

  • Inputs (Sensors): The board “feels” the world with an onboard temperature sensor, light sensor, microphone, potentiometer, and push buttons.

  • Outputs (Feedback): It “speaks” back through a buzzer, displays data on an LCD screen and OLED display, and visualizes status with RGB LEDs and standard LEDs.

🇿🇲 Empowering Team Zambia: A Ranger’s Mentorship

This opportunity was given by Obrey Muchena III and Edward phiri, the AI for Good Robotics Zambia Country manager, founder of  EORobotics lab, to lead as Equality mentor to Team Zambia . The true spirit of a Seeed Ranger is found in uplifting others. Dessap Loic’s role extended into the competition pits.

When the team faced critical navigation errors with their disaster-response robot, Loic didn’t just offer a quick fix and provide useful tools. He used the “Ranger approach”:

  • Encouraged team confidence and equal participation among all students

  • Helped the team refine their robot design strategy

  • Provided guidance on applying AI and IoT principles to their challenge

  • Ensured inclusive collaboration, allowing every team member’s voice to be heard

  • Supported stress management, teamwork, and problem-solving during matches

Inspiring More Than 50 Visitors With Hands-On Action

Over the two-day event, Dessap interacted with 50+ visitors, delivering highly practical demonstrations:

  • Mini-sessions on building IoT systems

  • Real-time environmental monitoring using SenseCAP sensors

  • AI vision demos for autonomous navigation

  • Workshops on rapid prototyping using XIAO boards

  • Storytelling on STEM impact in Cameroon

He also shared case studies from his work in Africa, including agricultural IoT systems, school robotics clubs, girls-in-tech programs, and climate action projects.
Visitors described the experience as eye-opening, motivating, and empowering.

From Switzerland to Africa: Innovation Without Borders

Dessap’s participation embodied the spirit of global collaboration. He showed the world that:

  • Innovation is universal

  • Access to the right tools can change lives

  • Youth everywhere deserve the chance to innovate

Whether mentoring students in Switzerland, training teachers in Cameroon, or running AI workshops in France, his message remains the same:

Technology must be accessible, inclusive, and purpose-driven.

The Impact: Connecting Global Tech to Local Solutions

Dessap Loic’s presence sent a clear message to the international community: The tools for change are already here.

By showcasing the Seeed Studio  ecosystem and TmeEducation, he bridged the gap between high-tech Swiss engineering and practical African application. He demonstrated that the same SenseCAP sensor used in a smart city in Europe is being used by RobotsaveBot (DessBot) to fight hunger and provide quality education through STEM  in Cameroon.

“As a Seeed Ranger, my goal isn’t just to show gadgets. It’s to show that with the right tools—like the XIAO and SenseCAP—a student in a village can build solutions that rival those in a high-tech lab.”Dessap Loic
