Build Your First MeshCore Network Using MeshCore Starter Kit
When you are camping in the wild or attending a large music festival, and your phone suddenly shows “no service”, wouldn’t this be extremely worrying? When the traditional network completely collapses, how can you keep in touch with your team?

I would like to introduce you to MeshCore™ – this is a flexible off-grid Mesh network architecture based on LoRa technology.

If you are looking for MeshCore devices that can achieve off-grid communication and do not rely on cellular networks, this article is exactly what you need.
Why Choose MeshCore Technology?
MeshCore™ represents an innovative LoRa-based mesh networking system designed for flexible, role-based off-grid communication. Unlike traditional approaches, MeshCore introduces clear node specialization – enabling efficient point-to-point transmission over short distances while utilizing dedicated repeater devices for long-range signal extension.

The most prominent advantage of MeshCore technology lies in its low power consumption. The device does not need to constantly broadcast its own information, which significantly reduces energy consumption, allowing the device to have a longer battery life in emergency scenarios.

The MeshCore network is particularly suitable for the following application scenarios:
- Emergency Communication: quickly deployed in emergency situations
- Precise Positioning: Rescue tasks requiring precise positioning
- Private Network: MeshCore can let you set up a network with just a few devices
How to Choose the Right MeshCore Device
Choose Your Portable Nodes (Companion)
In MeshCore network, companion nodes serve as portable endpoints. In short communication distance, devices can perform peer-to-peer communication after exchanging advert. A simple click of the button can easily broadcast your location.

| Recommended Device | Firmware | Specification | Application Scenario |
| Wio Tracker L1 Pro | Bluetooth Companion | OLED Screen 5-day Battery Life Direct Advert Sending | Hiking Camping Geek |
Expanding Your Network by Repeater
In MeshCore network, repeater can relay messages when two companions are out of communication range. The SenseCAP Solar Node is the perfect choice for MeshCore repeater, as solar can power it continuously.

| Recommended Device | Firmware | Specification | Application Scenario |
| SenseCAP Solar Node | Repeater | Solar Power Easy Installed Low Power Consumption | Camp Signal Coverage Data Relaying Large-scale SAR |
All products above arrives with factory-flashed MeshCore firmware, enabling easy-configuration deployment.
Planning Your MeshCore Network: A Practical Guide
When building a MeshCore network, the right number of devices is about understanding how your team moves and communicates in the field. You need enough to stay connected, but not so many to be wasted.
Understanding Your Real-World Needs
Start with these concrete questions:
- What’s the furthest distance team members might separate during operations?
- What terrain (hills, forests, buildings) exit among your members
The Wio Tracker L1 Pro typically connects directly with other units up to 5-8km in open terrain, but urban environments or dense forests can reduce this to 1-2km. The Solar Node can extends this range to over 9.6km.

Building from the Ground Up
Start with Companions, Add Repeaters as Needed
Most MeshCore networks begin with Wio Tracker L1 Pro devices as personal nodes. The rule of thumb: if team members regularly operate within visual range of each other (like hiking together or working on the same site), direct node-to-node communication usually suffices.
For example, small hiking group (3-5 people) in a valley: 3-5 L1 Pro units, no repeater needed
When to Add Solar Nodes (Repeater Function)
Consider adding a Solar Node when:
- Terrain creates natural barriers – valleys, ridges, or dense vegetation break line-of-sight
- Operations span multiple locations – separate teams maintaining coordinated communication
- Need for 24/7 connectivity – Solar Nodes provide continuous operation without battery swaps
- Expanding coverage incrementally – Start with Companions, then add Repeaters to fill gaps
Pro Tips for Better Signal
Tip 1: Upgrade Your Antenna
Switching to a “high-gain” antenna is the easiest way to boost your distance and signal quality.

Tip 2: Suitable Installation:
Generally, installing the repeater at a higher position will result in better signal coverage. Please ensure that the external antenna of your device is kept as vertical as possible and kept away from metal objects.

How do I start with the starter kit?
Setting up your first network is easier than you think. Our starter kits feature the L1 Pro and Solar Node. All MeshCore devices come with MeshCore firmware pre-installed, so there is no complicated coding required.

For Wio Tracker L1 Pro
- Download the App: Get the MeshCore App from the Apple App Store or the official MeshCore website.
- Connect: Turn on your device and pair it with your phone via Bluetooth.
- Set Your Region: The only main setting you need to change is your LoRa region (all Seeed products support the 863 MHz to 928 MHz bands).

Once your companion nodes are set to the same frequency, they will automatically start communicating. It’s that simple & happy meshing!
For Solar Node P1 Pro
Connect to Serial Configuration Tool: Connect your device to computer via USB cable. Turn on your device and open the configuration page. Change LoRa setting

Then your repeater will start relaying messages in your preferred frequency band.
