DevBoards – MDK
Here comes the modular development kits, we divide all the modular in two ways: tech and function.
From the technology aspect, all things are divided into following parts:
- processor
- sensor
- actuator
- connectivity
- user interface
- enclosure
- software (SDK)
- power-ups (improve extension)
From the function aspect, things are building according to the demands, there’s no differences in hardware of software, they are integrated to make the function come true. This the meaning of MDK, a combination of HDK and SDK.
- screen – output device, no matter epaper/OLED/TFT
- motion – detecting your motion, such as gesture recognition/control, step counting
- location – based on GPS module, together with location based service while connecting to popular website such as endomondo, google maps
- healthy – bases on heart-rate sensor, together with motion detecting to determine your current health situation

This is the imagination of the future wearable device for you. We begin with the first module: the micro controller based on Arduino, now called Xadow Main Board.
We saw the rising of Project Ara, hoping modular design can make you become a maker, you can choose the blocks and build the “gadget” according to your demands. You can build a smartwatch like samsung gear(maybe not so nice look), you can also build a 8bit not so smart watch as Big Time. A watch may limit your vision in wearable trending, you can embed your ideas of controlling the household appliances with your gesture in any things(such as Chinese tradition fan), a-ha!
