Description

Grove Smart IR Gesture Sensor is an intelligent gesture recognition module equipped with a PAG7646J1 infrared camera module, a PAG7661QN (ISP), and an LED fill light. It recognizes and interprets hand gestures through image recognition of the picture taken by the infrared camera, enabling clear gesture recognition even in dark environments.

The sensor supports various multi-finger gestures such as N-finger push, pinch, tap, grab, rotation, thumb up, thumb down, static gesture (1 to 5 fingers), and swipe. It can detect over 15 different types of hand gestures, making it suitable for a wide range of applications. With a detection range of 5-40cm, it provides accurate and reliable gesture recognition.

The High Compatibility of the sensor makes it easy to integrate into your projects. It is compatible with the XIAO series interface and supports the Arduino ecosystem by the Grove connector through the I2C connector. Gesture result data can be obtained by connecting to an MCU via the SPI pinhole, or Images can be displayed on a PC host through the Type-C interface. This flexibility makes it easy to use with a variety of systems and platforms.

Some gestures don't really work well. So the number of fingers overlapps gestures. E.g. pinching sometimes gets recognized as 2 finger shown.
However, if you have a specific (exclusive) set of 5 or 6 gestures this might actualyl work well.
A bit sad is that they only work on a relatively short distance. After around 30cm not much is recognized.
