Incoming! OSHW Gurus in China!

Was too busy even for blogging… Thanks to x.Fan for taking over this place!

Back to the early time Seeed Studio is established, while we were crowded in our small SOHO office, we had imaged that someday we might meet with those OSHW gurus, talk about open source hardware and share the opinions. Everybody was laughing for the idea, expected it happen but maybe in years.

Un-expectable like a box of chocolate, exciting events happens. A group of Gurus visited Shenzhen for a week, Bunnie Huang, Leah Buechley, Tom Igoe, Jeevan Kalanithi, David Merrill, Windell Oskay, Eric Schweikardt, and Nathan Seidle… Thanks to correspondance from Leah and David! We were so glad to have the chance to meet, and joined the trip to SEG market.

SEG (and many more around) market is the hub for electrical production, where countless components factories and trading company gather their sales here, ready to be formed up to a MP4, an R2D2 or a Seeeduino. The quality and prices here seriously varies, fulfilling the needs of customers from slumdog to Millionaire. A popular word: If Shenzhen sneezes, the electronic world will get a cold.

Nathan (Sparkfun) has blogged about the touring in China, with a lot of records of the real production line. It’s rare because most of the factories does not allow photographing, not to mention a PCB half made. Sparkfun is a company we admire and respect, not only for the wonderful product line but also those great tutors and complete documentation. Not conform to the CEO image we have guessed, Nathan is so easy going, friendly, with sincere love to his business.  : ) Got a photo to be remembered, thanks Leah!
