It’s interesting to find RF module with encoder and decoders for data transfer, while most of the time the transimtter are enclosed in a remote controller. Also this module has luckily about 4kbps data transfer capacity, good for normal wire replacement, control over 12DC or 120V/230VAC appliances. — IMHO, they should be handy for most usage.
Encoding is neccesary when you have multiple links, the most flexible way is some coding, but you may also rely on these chips for a simpler way. See product description for setup procedures, and let us know if any question ^^

Without doubt, active RFID and zigbee.
If you find a good way for active RFID and a detection around 5cm distance, then we could order up to 2000 pieces or more.
