Description
Raspberry Pi Pico inherits Raspberry Pi well features, equipped RP2040 chip, providing good quality and fine performance in microcontrollers, yet offered a relatively low price. It is perfect for beginners in electronics. Provided official and useful tools, multiple software examples and documentation, it offers them a simple way to use and get started with microcontrollers, allowing for quick positive programming feedback.
Being a Raspberry Pi Approved Design Partner, Seeed offers you even more RP2040-chip-based products for your further needs, which includes an even smaller RP2040-based microcontroller, the seeed studio XIAO RP2040.
There is 25 multi-function GPIO pins on the Pico, including communication ports like I2C, SPI, and UART, along with 8 programmable I/Os and so on. Equipped with an enhanced RP2040 chip, it can perform everything you need in IoT-controlling projects. And because of its small size and fine performance, it is very suitable for edge & embedded AI applications.
For the convenience of the board and the sensors connect, the Seeed published the Grove shield board for Pico that supports Grove functional components and at the same time, seeed studio provides multiple practical projects for an even easier way to master electronics. For example, you can directly use Pre-Soldered Pico and plug it into the shield board and then connect a Grove-Light sensor with a Grove-Relay to create an Automatic Light Intensity LED which is included in20 Raspberry Pi Pico Project Ideas.
Difference between Raspberry Pi and Raspberry Pi Pico
Raspberry Pi Pico is a microcontroller where you can utilize its physical computing to control components such as sensors, LEDs, and motors to achieve some basic functions. You can also connect with other microcontrollers to build some great and interesting projects.
Unlike Raspberry Pi, the single board computer(SBC), Pico has not installed an operating system. Instead, it can be directly programmed to use, which makes it easier to control. If you want to get to know electronics, a microcontroller will present you with the intuitive feeling of mastering electronics.
Grove Starter Kit for Raspberry Pi Pico
To provide a more smoothed learning experience for beginners, we have prepared a Grove Starter Kit for Raspberry Pi Pico. It includes multiple Grove components, a Grove Shield board for Pico, as well as free courses based on Raspberry Pi Pico. Programmed in Micro Python, this can help you quickly get started with development boards, and then proceed to realize your own fun projects.

Q&A
Can I solder it myself?
For the RP2040 itself, yes; it’s not easy, and you will need magnification of some sort and a very good soldering iron to go with a very steady hand, but it can be hand soldered. The Raspberry Pi Pico board on the other hand has been designed so that it can be easily soldered down to another PCB; it’s why it has castellated contacts on each edge. You can also try our pre-soldered Pico.
What is the main difference between Seeed Studio XIAO RP2040 and Raspberry Pi Pico?
Raspberry Pi Pico has more pins than Seeed Studio XIAO RP2040. That is, Seeed Studio XIAO RP2040 can be designed as thumb-sized and deservedly is smaller than Raspberry Pi Pico. Also, there is an reset button and an boot button on the Seeed Studio XIAO RP2040. When you want a even smaller microtroller, you can always try our Seeed Studio XIAO RP2040
What is an UF2 file using in Raspberry Pi Pico?
It’s a file format for flashing microcontrollers, developed by Microsoft. You can check for more information here.
