PRODUCT DETAILS

Note

When carrying heavy Inductive load for a period of time,  the on-board MCU might be down and a reset procedure is needed.

Tip

This product is fully compatible with Raspberry Pi 4 (1GB, 2GB,4GB) and hopes you enjoy hacking with Pi 4 and all of other Pi 4 accessories.

The Relay Shield utilizes four high quality relays and provides NO/NC interfaces that control the load of high current. Which means it could be a nice solution for controlling devices that couldn’t be directly controlled by IIC bus. Standardized shield form factor enables smoothly connection with the Raspberry Pi . The shield also has four dynamic indicators show the on/off state of each relay.

    Easy to use using Python
    Plus:
I use this board with Python to control it. The example code worked fine to integrate into my own project.

    Minus:
Only the small header is soldered to the board. That should be fixed.
Also you should have the possibility to apply extra power as the relais can take some current when all are in use.

    What could be better?
The I2C could be used to control more outputs. I'd appreciate if the remaining outputs would be accessible via optocoupler.

    Would not recommend
Circuit lacks any form of power supply bypass-capacitors at both the +5V and +3V3 rails, causing trouble when driving multiple relays with semi-inductive loads at the same time. I used this to switch a contactor and multiple solenoid valves but nearly every switch-cycle the IO-expander became unreachable on it's I2C interface (used power supply = 5A max). I've bodged on some 1uF capacitors and since then it worked flawless. Also, the dimensions of this board are based on a Pi 1 B, it will not fit in casing for a Pi 2 or 3. I also doubt how 'high quality' these Chinese unobtainable relays really are. 1/5 stars, would not recommend this board to anyone.
